Senate Agreement with US Trade Ambassador

The US Senate has approved President Trump's candidacy for the US sales representative for Thursday.

The nomination of lawyer Robert Lighthizer was approved on Thursday with a large majority of 82 to 14 votes. The Senate's approval had been delayed for more than a hundred days since its nomination.

The government had to wait for the start of the renegotiation of the NAFTA Free Trade Agreement until Lighthizer was appointed. President Trump had already said during his election campaign that the current NAFTA agreement had been disastrous for US workers and that he wanted to replace for a better agreement.
