Salvini: take rescued migrants home

The countries that participate in missions with naval vessels in which migrants in need are taken on board should simply take those people home.

Salvini will propose this Thursday at a meeting with fellow EU ministers in Innsbruck. Salvini launches his idea one day after an Irish navy ship entered the port of Messina in Sicily with 106 migrants on board. The Irish ship, the Samuel Beckett, participates in the European mission Operation Sophia that works from Rome. As a result, a number of European countries, including the Netherlands, are trying to block the smuggling routes across the Mediterranean.

Salvini is a member of the right-wing populist Lega who has made his spearheads of stopping migrants. The Lega has been in charge since early June together with the protest party M5S (Five Star Movement) Italy.
