Russian secret service kills IS-trailer

Russian special forces killed a suspected supporter of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization.

According to the FSB, the man had planned an attack during the presidential elections on 18 March. Among the suspects were found self-made explosives, firearms and ammunition, reported news agency TASS Thursday.

The Moscow authorities assume that thousands of people from Russia and former Soviet republics in Central Asia have joined IS or other Islamist terrorist groups. Since the bomb attack on the St. Petersburg metro in April 2017, with fifteen deaths, security forces are increasingly looking for alleged extremists among migrants from Central Asia. The attacker was then a young man from Kyrgyzstan.
