Russian police pick up hundreds of demonstrators

On Sunday according to the human rights organization OVD-Info, the Russian police arrested nearly 850 people who demonstrated against the plans of the government to raise the pensionable age.

In Moscow, where a new mayor was elected, there were 'several' arrests. Opposition leader Alexej Navalni, who is serving one month's prison sentence for organizing another forbidden demonstration, had called on his supporters to protest against the pension reform. An estimated 2,000 people, notably many young people, listened and gathered in Pushkin Square in the center.
