Russia resumes flights to Cairo

Russian President Vladimir Putin has allowed civilian airlines to carry out flights to Cairo again.

Russia stopped air traffic to Egypt after the bloody attack on a plane in November 2015. Then a bomb exploded in a Russian passenger plane that had left the seaside resort of Sharm-el-Sheikh. The 224 people on board did not survive.

The attack and the suspension of air traffic were a blow to the tourist industry in the North African country. Moscow has demanded that the Egyptians raise the security measures. According to news agency TASS, this was a condition for resuming air traffic to the Egyptian capital.
