Runners unwell by heat in Antwerp

At least 40 participants in the Antwerp 10 Miles \u0026 amp; running race Marathon became unwell due to the warm weather and needed medical care in a hospital.

In total, 268 participants had to be treated along the route by employees of the Red Cross, the organization reports. 'The participants were mostly overheating, dehydration and complete exhaustion,' says An Luyten of the Red Cross, who also went along and experienced the heat himself.

Due to the high temperatures, all participants were warned along the way to take it easy and take no risks. More than 40,000 runners divided over four distances took part in the 33rd edition of the running competition on Sunday.
