Ruined arch Syria gets new life

The triumphal arch in the Syrian city of Palmyra, which was destroyed in October (IS) by Islamic State, has received new life on the Trafalgar Square in London.

The replica is one-third smaller than the original. The next three days will remain the arch in London. Thereafter, it is intended that it can be seen in major cities all over the world is, including New York and Dubai, in order to end up next to the original in Palmyra.

The triumphal arch was blown up by IS in October last year. Palmyra, also called the city of a thousand pillars, is among the most important archaeological sites in the Middle East. Until the beginning of the civil war in 2011, Palmyra was the leading tourist destination in Syria.
