Republican objection: new shutdown threatens

There is a chance that the American government will have to deal with a shutdown again.

The Senator for the State of Kentucky has exercised his right to postpone the decision by requesting a debate on government spending. A minority of Republicans is against increasing public spending. Whether there is an agreement in the Senate and the House of Representatives before midnight (6:00 am Dutch time) is uncertain.

The US Senate appeared to have signed a budget deal on Wednesday for the next two years. A majority of both Republicans and Democrats could agree. The planned budget provides more money for defense and infrastructure, but also leaves room for social policy. In total, it involves a budget expansion of nearly 300 billion dollars.

Paul Ryan, the leader of the Republicans in the House said earlier Thursday that he expected a budget agreement before the deadline.
