Red Cross: People sleep on the street at Lombok

After the heavy earthquake on the Indonesian island of Lombok many people spend the night in the open air.

Fearing the collapse of buildings, many people do not dare to return to their homes. There are also many aftershocks that keep people in panic. The Red Cross supports the people on the ground with blankets and psychosocial help, says a staff member of the aid organization.

In Northern Lombok, according to Red Cross staff, it can be seen that the damage is 'quite substantial'. Many houses have been destroyed. The victims are evacuated from dangerous areas and wounded are cared for.

The aid organization can not say how many injured there are.
