Ramaphosa promises to fight against corruption

A day after his election, the new president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, promised a new beginning for the country.

After a period of declining confidence in the institutions and leaders of the country, a new dawn is now on its way, he said. He wants to build a society 'that is characterized by decency and integrity and that does not tolerate plundering public funds. 'Ramaphosa also promised to stimulate the economy and create jobs.

The 65-year-old was elected president on Thursday after his predecessor, Jacob Zuma, stepped down under great pressure from the African National Congress (ANC).
