Presidential candidate Brazil from hospital

The stabbed Brazilian presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro left the Einstein hospital in São Paulo after 23 days.

After his resignation, it is unclear for the time being whether the 63-year-old will perform in public in the last week before the presidential elections in the South American country.

The right-wing politician was stabbed in early September during a campaign meeting in the state of Minas Gerais and was seriously injured. Bolsonaro had been in the hospital ever since and could no longer campaign because of his injuries. After the incident his popularity increased. Since a court denied the candidacy of ex-president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Bolsonaro is a favorite of the presidential elections of 7 October.

Bolsonaro is regarded as a controversial politician who does not shy away from provocative statements. For example, he praised the former military dictatorship.
