President South Korea would like to talk with colleague Kim Jong-un

South Korean President Moon Jae-in is willing to meet his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong-un.

Moon declared Wednesday in Seoul that the Korean peninsula must be free of nuclear weapons, as agreed between the two countries. There should not be another war, such as from 1950 to 1953. Peaceful coexistence must be the starting point.

The president came with his statement after the neighboring countries had again spoken directly after two years. That happened Tuesday in a South Korean town. The delegations agreed, among other things, that North Korea will appear at the Olympic Winter Games in South Korea in February, with a team of athletes, officials and supporters.

Moon Jae-in stated that the pressure exerted by US President Trump on North Korea in recent years ultimately led to the cautious rapprochement that has now arisen among the Koreas.
