President Macedonia against name change

The Macedonian president Gjorge Ivanov refuses to give his approval to the name change of his country.

The leaders of Greece and Macedonia announced the deal on the name change of Macedonia on Wednesday. The Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said his country will be renamed Republic of Northern Macedonia. This should pave the way for joining NATO and the EU, but according to President Ivanov, this is insufficient reason to agree with the agreement.

Ivanov complains that the Greeks 'got everything they wanted and we did nothing. 'He can pronounce a veto, but that could then be undone by the parliament. The president is supported by the nationalist opposition party VMRO-DPMNE, who also opposes the name change.
