Premier Serbia elected president

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic (47) of Serbia has won the presidential elections in the Balkan country.

He has 55 percent of the vote, a second round is therefore no longer necessary. The opposition candidate Sasa Jankovic came out with more than 16 percent from the second bus.

Vucic is considered Europe-minded. He seeks EU membership after and maintains good ties with Merkel and Putin. The role of president is largely ceremonial in Serbia, but it is expected all political power in Vucic continues as leader of the ruling party SNS.
