Pope visits South Sudan

Pope Francis will visit South Sudan in October.

Bishop Tombe in Southern Sudan said Tuesday that there is no exact dates are known. That depends on the security situation as it develops into autumn. Francis wants only one thing in South Sudan, he has repeatedly said, preaching peace.

The country has been independent since 2011. In December 2013 the civil war erupted. The struggle of President Kiir and his former vice president Machar is the source of most misery. Also fighting groups from different ethnic backgrounds together. The war cost thousands of lives.
