Pope arrived in Ireland

Pope Francis arrived in Ireland on Saturday.

The two-day visit of the Pope is dedicated to the World Family Days, where thousands of Catholics participate. According to the organization, they reflect on the importance of marriage and the family as the cornerstone of our lives, society and the church. '

The previous pope who visited predominantly Roman Catholic Ireland was John Paul II. During his visit, divorces and contraception were still illegal. Meanwhile, Irish voters have spoken through referenda for the legalization of abortion and gay marriage.

Prime Minister Leo Varadkar told the BBC this week that the Roman Catholic Church used to have a 'too dominant place in our society. 'He stated that his predecessors consulted with bishops about policy issues, but according to Varadkar, those kinds of customs are no longer of this time.
