Political prisoners in Myanmar are released

The outgoing government of Myanmar will leave more than a hundred political prisoners.

According to an official from the office of the President of the prisoners released because of a Buddhist peace conference to be held in the country. Eighteen of the detainees have been freed, a spokesman for the infamous Insein prison Friday knowing.

As far as I know, the next few days, 101 political prisoners are released , told a staff member of human rights organization AAPP. It would mostly be people who were arrested for participating in demonstrations. The US had on Monday called for the release of all political prisoners.

The government of the country is about to hand over power. The military-backed party of President Thein Sein lost in November's elections, the National League for Democracy opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Sein promised then that the power transfer will be peaceful.
