Police Papua New Guinea clears camp

The police of Papua New Guinea proceeded Thursday with the evacuation of a refugee camp refused by Australia on the island of Manus.

According to a spokesman for the police, the men had quietly left the camp. 'The Australian Minister for Immigration Peter Dutton confirmed, however, that a' small number 'of migrants have been arrested. Residents of the camp accused the police of violent behavior. 'They have destroyed everything', wrote the Iranian refugee and journalist Behrouz Boochani on Twitter, 'They are very aggressive and throw all our stuff in the trash cans. 'Boochani was arrested, but released after a short time.

Australia closed the camp on 31 October and had a new relief camp built. Food, water and electricity supplies from the camp have been closed, but the asylum seekers refuse to move. 'We do not want a new prison. We want a third country, 'said one of the residents.

The Australian government refuses to accept refugees who come ashore on their own or with the help of people smugglers. Neighboring Papua New Guinea has agreed to pay for a relief camp on the island of Manus, but the highest court declared the camp illegal in 2016. Papua New Guinea does not want to include the refugees permanently.
