Police gave weapon back to Florida shooter

The shooter of the deadly shootings at the airport in Fort Lauderdale had to hand his gun late last year when he underwent a mental examination.

The 26-year-old man who opened fire Friday at the airport, said in November against FBI agents that he heard voices and that he was influenced by a US intelligence. According to police, the killer thought he was under the influence of Islamic State.

It is not clear whether the gun he got back early last month was the weapon with which he spent Friday five people dead. CNN reports based on sources within the police that this is indeed the same weapon.
