Philippine judge wants arrest Imelda Marcos

A court in the Philippines ordered Friday for the arrest of Imelda Marcos (89), the widow of the former dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Ferdinand Marcos ruled the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. During his reign, thousands of people were imprisoned, disappeared and murdered. In 1989 he died in exile in Hawaii. As head of state he would have accumulated a fortune of ten billion dollars. Imelda Marcos became famous for her huge collection of shoes and jewelery.

Marcos can still lodge an appeal against her conviction on procedural grounds.
