PayPal through the dust after letter to dead woman

Payment service PayPal has apologized for an 'insensitive' letter to a dead woman.

Durdle died earlier this year at the age of 37 from the consequences of cancer. Her husband informed PayPal about the death of his wife. Later a letter flopped on the mat in his home in British Bucklebury. The payment service wrote, among other things, that the woman was still owed some £ 3,200 to the company and that legal proceedings might follow.

'We have been informed that you have died. You violate condition 15. 4 (c) of your agreement with PayPal Credit, 'wrote the company. The widower, who also went to the BBC, was told by PayPal that there might be a human or computer error or a bad standard letter.

The payment service has apologized to Durdle's husband and waived the outstanding debt. It is still being investigated what went wrong.
