Patients own boss over digital file

Patients can choose which medicinal their patient data may communicate with each other electronically.

The Senate went Tuesday approved the proposal of Minister Edith Schippers (Health), in which the electronic exchange of medical data is better regulated. Medical records are often exchanged electronically, for example between GP and pharmacy. Schippers wants everyone to determine what information can be shared digitally with the caregiver. A patient is not required there to authorize.

Caregivers have if the law enters into force three years to adapt their computer systems so that the consent of patients is well arranged for the exchange of medical data. Health insurers and occupational physicians should not look at this electronic information flows.
