Obama defeats Trump as the most admired man

Former American President Barack Obama has been proclaimed the most admired person by residents of the United States for the tenth time.

He defeated seated president and last year's winner Donald Trump with 17 to 14 percent of the vote, according to the annual poll of research firm Gallup. Obama also kept Pope Francis, Senator John McCain, entrepreneur Elon Musk and the Dalai Lama behind him.

It is for the first time in nine years that the incumbent president is not elected as the most admired person. Voters who call themselves Democrats voted almost unanimously on Obama. With the Republican voters, there was less enthusiasm for their own candidate, but they voted in favor of Trump.

Hillary Clinton was the highest ranked woman on the list for the sixteenth time in a row and for the 22nd time. She defeated former first lady Michelle Obama with 9 to 7 percent. The popularity of her husband Bill is waning. He fell this year for the first time in a quarter of a century from the top 10 most admired people.
