Nobel laureate De Klerk is in hospital

The former South African president Frederik Willem de Klerk is hospitalized.

De Klerk led South Africa from 1989 to 1994. He received the Nobel Prize in 1993, along with his later successor Nelson Mandela. They thanked this prestigious award for their efforts to peacefully end the apartheid regime.

According to his foundation, the former president has undergone a successful operation. 'He is expected to leave the hospital in Cape Town next week.
