No more penalties for Facebook

Facebook does not need to fear a penalty of the Personal Authority, the successor to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (CBP).


         The so-called cease and desist order is therefore definitively scrapped, the authority announced on Thursday. The threat was already suspended. Facebook could lose up to 750 000 euro.
Facebook had introduced a year ago, new terms of use. The site went more information from its billions of users worldwide store. The former CBP therefore began an investigation if that was allowed for the Dutch users. Facebook found that the Dutch watchdog had no jurisdiction because the company based in Ireland. CBP wanted Facebook to know why the company did. After the threat of the penalty, Facebook explained that yet.
The substantive examination to Facebook ongoing. When the final report, the authority will decide whether it has jurisdiction. It is not known how long the investigation will take.
