MyHeritage: millions of passwords stolen

Hackers captured the e-mail addresses and passwords of more than 92 million users of the MyHeritage genealogy website on 26 October last year.

MyHeritage offers the possibility to make family trees and search for relatives in archives. Worldwide, 96 million people have registered with the site. Users can also send a DNA sample for analysis, something that 1.4 million people have done. According to MyHeritage, these data are stored separately and are not captured at the hack.

MyHeritage says that it has no indication that the thieves used the stolen data. The company advises everyone to change their passwords.
