Myanmar accuses rebels of ambush

The Myanmar army accuses Rohingya insurgents of an attack on a vehicle in the province of Rakhine.

The rebels carried out attacks on the Myanmar security forces in August last year. They then hit back hard. Approximately 650,000 Rohingya have since fled to neighboring Bangladesh. The rebels of ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) in the meantime only sporadically attacked.

The military said that about ten ARSA attackers are behind Friday's attack. The government spoke in its own statement about 'twenty insurgents' who used homemade explosives and firearms. The target would have been a vehicle that transported someone to a hospital. The rebels were not available for comment.
