Much damage, but no injuries by storm

A storm on the night between Wednesday and Thursday on the Baltic coast of Germany caused considerable damage.

The storm surge was the highest since 2006. Until midnight, the water rose, then lower it started. In many places it was still about a meter higher than normal, but the danger had passed in the morning, said a spokesman for the Department for Marine Navigation and Hydrography (BSH).

An estimate of the damage could not yet be given.
