Mobile 5G internet in Europe is getting closer

The rollout in Europe of the 5G network for superfast mobile internet from 2020 is a step closer.

Negotiators from the EU Member States and the European Parliament have reached a political agreement on this. 'An essential step towards full agreement on the telecom rules', says Andrus Ansip, responsible for the digital market within the European Commission.

The 5G network creates capacity for rapid growth in online devices (internet of things), including self-driving cars. According to the European Commission, it can benefit 146 billion euros annually and 2.4 million new jobs in the EU.
