Millions of Chileans without drinking water

By storms across central Chile are an estimated four million people without drinking water.

A woman is slain by a landslide in the San José de Maipo Valley, a mountainous region southeast of the capital Santiago. Police are still looking for four other people were missing in the area.

Television footage showed streets in Providencia, an upscale neighborhood of Santiago, inundated by floods after the Mapocho River overflowed its banks.

Copper producer Codelco said the rain had forced the Chilean state-owned company to suspend production of its ancient underground El Teniente mines. Codelco takes into account a loss of 5,000 tons of copper.
