Mexican drug lord gets life in US

Mexican drug lord Alfredo Beltrán Leyva Wednesday by a US court sentenced to life imprisonment.

Beltrán Leyva had pleaded guilty in the smuggling of cocaine and methamphetamine. The staatsaanklager had demanded a life sentence and a financial penalty of ten billion dollars. The drug lord was arrested in 2008 and extradited to Mexico in 2014 after a prison sentence of nearly seven years in the US

Alfredo 'El Mochomo 'Beltrán Leyva ran with his brother Arturo, Mario, Carlos and Mexican Héctor Beltrán-Leyva cartel. The group was affiliated with the Sinaloa cartel, Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzmán. His brother Arturo was slain in December 2009 by the Mexican army.
