Merkel works to consult with Trump

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is working to schedule a consultation with the elected US president Donald Trump.

Merkel has offered in her role as chair of the G20 to travel to the United States, said the sources. The Chancellor has recently spoken to Trump only once, shortly after his election as new president.

Trump said last weekend that he has always had 'great respect' for Merkel. However, he criticized its decision in 2015 to allow millions of asylum seekers to Germany. He even spoke of a 'catastrophic mistake' which has opened the door to put terrorists.

At a press conference Merkel refused to respond to questions about the interviews Trump gave to Bild and The Times. She wants to wait until after the swearing in of Trump.
