May and EU agree on adjustment of the Irish border

British Prime Minister Theresa May has agreed with President Jean-Claude Juncker of the European Commission an adjustment to her Brexit agreement.

May has assured himself of 'legally binding changes that strengthen and improve the agreement on the exit of the EU,' the head of cabinet told parliament.

According to Lidington, both parties have agreed on a plan for Northern Ireland that will ensure that the European Union cannot 'hold' Britain indefinitely in the so-called 'backstop'. This is the arrangement that must prevent a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.
