Mattis resigned after talking to Trump with Erdogan

The resignation of the US Secretary of Defense James Mattis followed a telephone conversation between President Donald Trump and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in which Trump abruptly.

According to the American edition of The Guardian, on Thursday afternoon, Mattis tried in a last-ditch attempt to change the president's mind. He argued in favor of continuing to support the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which consists mainly of Kurdish militias. The SDF play an important role in the fight against Islamic State in Syria.
