Marion Cotillard derailed

Actress Marion Cotillard derives not only in Gueulle d'ange, now on display at the Cannes festival.

Marion Cotillard plays a chain-drinking drink organ in Gueulle d 'Ange without any sense of responsibility. We meet her character at her fifth wedding. Also that marriage is short-lived: Marlene's new husband catches her at the end of their wedding with one of the guests. Meanwhile her 8-year-old daughter Elli sipped sadly from left behind wine glasses.

It goes from bad to worse. Not much later, Marlene leaves her daughter alone for days. And there is no one in the environment who responds to that: not the neighbors, not the school, nobody is not. Sounds far-fetched? Right. Just as everything is exaggerated and unbelievable in this melodrama by debuting director Vanessa Vilho. What also applies to the game of Cotillard, who is the mother of two children, together with fellow actor Guillaume Canet.

Many films do not make the 42-year old actress anymore. She also presented the penultimate- the French Les fantômes d'Ismael through and through- last year in Cannes. That was not a success either. Meanwhile, ten years ago she won an Oscar with her role as singer Edith Piaf in La vie en rose. The shine of that coveted golden figurine is now so sweet.

It is time for Marion Cotillard to start brushing and give her career a new impetus. Films such as Gueule d'ange- to be seen in Belgium later this year- unfortunately do not help.
