Many deaths in attack on blue helmets in Congo

In an attack on military personnel of a United Nations peace mission in the northeast of the Congo, at least fourteen casualties and more than forty wounded were killed.

The plan of the UN to help establish peace in the chaotic Democratic Republic of Congo led in 1999 to the Monusco mission, which is one of the largest missions of the people's organization. The UN is active throughout the country and has an estimated 95,000 people, including many soldiers from India.

The North-Eastern provinces of North and South Kivu have for decades been among the most violent places in the African country of 83 million inhabitants that is more than 56 times larger than our country.
