Madrid continues to drive Catalonia

The Spanish government continues to rule the northeastern region of Catalonia when it attempts to reinstall the fledgling former prime minister of the region, Carles Puigdemont.

Puigdemont is fugitive. He is wanted for a series of criminal offenses, because he had an illegal referendum on independence in October with money and other resources from the Catalan government. In addition, almost exclusively separatists cast their vote. That was the reason why the then regional government of separatists found a reason to declare independence.

Madrid therefore took over the management of Catalonia in a kind of state of emergency on 27 October and Puigdemont fled to Belgium. Political relations hardly changed at the elections in December. The separatists therefore want Puigdemont to become Catalan government leader again.
