Lula gives herself to the police

The Brazilian former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has declared himself to the police.

Lula had to report to the police from the judge on Friday to serve a sentence of twelve years. That deadline expired and was hidden in the headquarters of the metalworkers' union in São Bernardo do Campo. There he was surrounded by hundreds of followers.

Lula, who wants to take part in the elections again in October, has been convicted of accepting bribes.
