Lots of forest fires in hot and dry Greece

After two weeks of high temperatures and drought, the fire brigade in Greece has the hands full of fighting fires.

The fires raged on the islands of Crete and Zakynthos, and near Porto Rafti near Athens. No notification has been made of dead or injured yet.

From Sunday evening, rain is expected in many parts, but with thunderstorms. This does not mean that the danger will be gone: bushes and trees are so dried that lightning can easily create new fires. Besides, it's blowing hard, which complicates fire extinguishing.
