Lega and M5S agree on government

The leaders of the populist Five Star Movement (M5S) and Lega agreed on Thursday in Rome after hours of consultation on their new government team.

Matteo Salvini (Lega) and Luigi Di Maio (M5S) receive, according to party sources, a ministerial post, Home Affairs and Labor and Industry respectively. The economics professor Giovanni Tria becomes Minister of Economic Affairs. He is critical of EU policy, but has no plan B ready to step out of the euro, such as Paolo Savona. This was unacceptable to Economy for Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

Savona now receives the European Affairs portfolio. Enzo Moavero Milanesi becomes Minister of Foreign Affairs.
