Lavrov expects Taliban at conference

Sergey Lavrov expects that a representative of the Taliban will take part in the Afghanistan conference on September 4 in Moscow.

Lavrov denied the message that Moscow wants to reduce the terrorist organization Islamic State in Afghanistan with the help of the Taliban. That suggested the Afghan ambassador in Russia. Lavrov can not imagine anything about this hypothesis, reported Interfax news agency. The Taliban are banned as a terrorist group in Russia, as is IS.

The United States blamed the Kremlin for supplying weapons to the Taliban. Lavrov says it is known to be talked to the Taliban. According to him, that is part of the Russian Afghanistan strategy, because the fundamentalists are part of the population. The consultation is often about the safety of Russian citizens.

The reconciliation talks about the years of conflict in Afghanistan also involve China, Pakistan, Iran and India.
