Last Da Vinci privately owned under the hammer

The painting Salvador Mundi of Leonardo Da Vinci goes under the hammer to Christie's in New York on Wednesday.

Christ as savior of the world, as the Dutch title says, is now owned by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev (50). He bought the artwork in 2013 for 127 million euros from Swiss art broker Yves Bouvier who bought the work himself for a long time for 67 million euros on an auction.

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) painted the panel around the year 1500. It is one of the only fifteen works of Da Vinci that have remained. In 1958, the unknown work for the first time was auctioned in Britain for £ 45. Converted to now it's 900 euros.

The auction starts at 16.00 Dutch time.
