Largest union demands departure Zuma

Cosatu, the largest union of South Africa, President Jacob Zuma Tuesday called on to resign.

The call was a major setback for Zuma. With own words 1.8 million members is the largest trade union Cosatu of South Africa. In addition, the union has traditionally been a major partner of the ruling party ANC. Cosatu said that the time the alliance with the ANC is to reconsider.

The popularity of Zuma is dramatically decreased after a series of scandals. He is also accused of corruption and abuse of power. Criticism of the president took last week further, because Zuma, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan dismissed.

The rand lost since then for about 7 percent of its value. The growth of the South African economy has recently fallen to its lowest level since 2009, while unemployment is more than a quarter of the workforce.
