Kuwait calls for dialogue with Iran

The Foreign Minister of Kuwait on Wednesday paid a surprise visit to Tehran and the government called for a genuine dialogue between Iran and its neighbors in the Gulf region.

The tension between the predominantly Shiite Iran and the Sunni Gulf states, especially Saudi Arabia, is hugely increased in part because they are diametrically opposed in the conflicts in Syria and Yemen. The visit Sabah Khaled al-Sabah to his Iranian counterpart seems to be a serious attempt at rapprochement.

' It is necessary that in a relaxed atmosphere and frank dialogue an end to the disagreements and misunderstandings between countries in the region, '' Sabah said, according to IRNA. The Iranian minister Mohammad Javad Zarif praised Kuwait for its mediation.
