Judges Kenya decide on election

The Kenyan police have closed streets around the Supreme Court in Nairobi.

Critics went to court to demand postponement of the election, which is being boycotted by opposition leader Raila Odinga. He had previously enforced that the presidential election had to be reversed, but announced later to withdraw. The politician believes that the electoral council has not taken sufficient steps to ensure fair progress.

The head of the electoral council, Wafula Chebukati, acknowledged last week that it is difficult to ensure that the elections are 'honest and credible' this time. He complained about division within the council and said he was under pressure to step up.
