Judge wants to release ex-president Brazil

A Brazilian federal judge, Rogério Favreto, has ordered that the former Brazilian president Luíz Inacio Lula da Silva be released.

Lula served as president from 2003 to 2010. During those years he conducted a costly and socially responsible policy that drew many Brazilians out of poverty. He is therefore still popular while the country suffers for years under an economic crisis. Lula wants to participate again in the presidential elections that are in October.

It is unclear whether Lula is actually released. The Public Prosecutor and the special anti-corruption judge Sérgio Moro oppose this.
