Jihadists claim Damascus attack

The jihadists Tahrir al-Sham on Sunday claimed responsibility for the double suicide bombing in Damascus.

Tahrir al-Sham is an alliance of jihadist movements such as Fateh al-Sham (the former Nusra Front). The organization says that the attacks were directed against Iranian-backed militias, fighting for the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said most of the victims were Iraqi pilgrims. They were on their way to a shrine. Even twenty fighters who supported the Syrian government, the attack would not have survived.
