Italian government is holding on to the budget for the time being

The Italian government has for the time being retained its main budgetary targets for 2019.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte discussed with his deputies Matteo Salvini and Luigi Di Maio the package of financial measures that are ready. The European Commission warns against disciplinary action if Rome fails to adjust its expensive plans.

'The goals that were already established have been confirmed once again', the three said in a joint statement. Some government sources, however, said that the planned budget deficit is likely to be reduced after the calculation.
