Israel is restoring Gaza energy supply

Israel is preparing to restore electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip.

The decision means that residents of the Gaza Strip will have access to electricity again for six to eight hours a day. Israel limited the electricity supplies to the area last year. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas had paid less for power to Gaza, where the rival Hamas movement was in power.

The mutual relationships are now slightly better. Hamas and Fatah, the party of Abbas, signed a reconciliation agreement in Cairo at the end of last year. The Palestinian Authority recently announced that it will resume payments for electricity to Gaza.
