Israel is reopening border crossing with Gaza Strip

Israel has re-opened the border crossing with the Gaza Strip at the city of Erez.

The Palestinian enclave on the coast currently has three border crossings, two to Israel and a third to Egypt. Israel closed the Erez transition more than a week ago after riots at the border. The army then said Palestinians threw stones and Molotov cocktails.

It has been uneasy for some time at the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip, where the Hamas movement is in power. During weekly protests, some 170 Palestinians have been killed since the end of March, authorities in the Gaza Strip say. Protesters want to force them to return to areas where Palestinians used to live, but who are now Israeli territory.
